Frequently Asked Questions
What services do you offer?
We offer home-based stays, in-home care, daytime visits, walks, and simple daily support such as feeding and medication. If you need something specific, we’re happy to discuss it.
How many dogs do you care for at a time?
We intentionally keep things small. Typically 1–2 visiting dogs at our home at a time, depending on temperament and compatibility.
Where will my dog stay during an overnight stay?
Your dog stays in our Bridgehampton home — a relaxed, comfortable environment with a fenced yard, indoor space, and plenty of downtime. This is not a kennel; it’s truly a home setting.
What does a “day in the life” of my dog look like at Darby & Friends?
Obviously, the schedule will be somewhat varied based on weather and your dog’s preferences. Typically a day at home will include the following:
Morning walks or yard time
Play sessions or fetch with Darby
Rest periods indoors
Afternoon enrichment (walks, sniff time, play)
Dinner + quiet evening routine
We follow your dog’s normal schedule as closely as possible.
Who will be caring for my dog?
One of our small team members: Victoria, Merrill, or Cheryl. You’ll always know who is caring for your dog.
What is protocol if my dog gets sick or hurt?
We first attempt to contact you and/or a emergency contact you have given us. Secondly we would contact your primary veterinarian to discuss situation, if they advise immediate attention, and they are not available, we will go to WAVE, the 24/7 emergency clinic in Water Mill (5 minutes away.) We also have access to a veterinary consultant for guidance via phone/video when appropriate.
Is Darby always there?
Yes — Darby is our calm, friendly golden retriever and happily welcomes new dog friends. If your dog prefers space, we can easily separate.
Do you offer care in my home?
Yes. We offer in-home care including overnights, extended visits, or support for dogs who feel best in their own space.
Do you take dogs with medical needs?
We can administer simple oral or topical medications. We cannot perform injections or specialized medical procedures.
Do you accept all breeds and sizes?
Yes — as long as the dog is friendly, social, and safe in a home environment.
Do you require a meet-and-greet?
Yes. We meet your dog in advance to make sure the fit is right for everyone.
What should I bring for a home-based stay?
Your dog’s food, medications, leash/harness, and a favorite comfort item. We provide cozy beds, bowls, and lots of attention.
How do I book?
